The Mobius Young Climate Leaders for Himalayan Development (MYCL) is a youth-centered climate education and sustainability initiative launched in June 2023 in Nagaland by YouthNet, in partnership with the Mobius Foundation, University of Cambridge (via Hearth Advisors), and state education departments. In May 2025, the project expanded to Sikkim through a collaboration between the Khanchendzonga Conservation Committee (KCC) and the Mobius Foundation, officially launching on 1st May 2025.
The project aims to empower youth across the seven North-Eastern states of India through environmental education, skill-building, and community-led climate action. Each state selects 9 Young Climate Leaders, totaling 63 leaders, trained to implement sustainable practices and advocate for policy change.
Core components include the Pani-Pahar curriculum—a climate awareness program taught in schools—weekly Mobius Green Friday recycling initiatives, and practical training in agroforestry, beekeeping, and waste management. These are supported by expert mentorship and strategic partnerships, such as with the Nagaland Beekeeping & Honey Mission and JICA Forestry Management Project.
In Sikkim, KCC’s involvement ensures that conservation strategies reflect the unique ecology of the Eastern Himalayas, with youth leaders engaging directly in local biodiversity and water conservation efforts.
The MYCL project aligns with regional frameworks like the Tawang Declaration and contributes to India’s climate goals by integrating indigenous knowledge, community solutions, and education into national development pathways.
