Khangchendzonga Conservation Committee - KCC Sikkim

Welcome to KCC

Established in early 1996 in Yuksam, Geyzing District, West Sikkim, the Khangchendzonga Conservation Committee (KCC) is a registered non-governmental organization. Comprising community representatives, community-based organizations, and dedicated stakeholders, KCC has emerged in response to the growing concerns for nature conservation in the region.
The committee's core belief is in fostering the co-existence of nature and humanity within the ecosystem, promoting sustainable growth in society.
KCC stands out as a dedicated organization in the state, focusing on the preservation of the Khangchendzonga sacred landscape, which constitutes the highest mountain ecosystem in the country. The organization is unwavering in its commitment to conserving nature and culture by providing livelihood support to mountain communities.
At its core, KCC is driven by the ethos that nature and human communities can thrive together, contributing to the well-being of both the environment and society.

WHY TO SUPPORT IN KCC??

Supporting the Khangchendzonga Conservation Committee (KCC) can be beneficial for several important reasons, spanning environmental, community, and wildlife protection efforts:

Biodiversity Conservation: The Khangchendzonga region, located in the Eastern Himalayas, is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna, including endangered species like the snow leopard, red panda, and Himalayan tahr. The KCC works to protect these species and their habitats from threats like poaching, habitat loss, and climate change.

Sustainable Livelihoods for Local Communities: By involving local communities in conservation efforts, the KCC helps create sustainable livelihoods. This includes eco-tourism initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and capacity-building programs that ensure communities can thrive while preserving their natural resources.

Cultural Preservation: The region is culturally rich, with many indigenous communities and traditions. Supporting the KCC helps protect not only the natural environment but also the cultural heritage of these communities, ensuring they can continue their traditions while living harmoniously with nature.

Climate Change Mitigation: The region plays a crucial role in the ecological balance of the Himalayas. By supporting conservation, you help mitigate the effects of climate change, which is especially important for the long-term health of the region's glaciers, forests, and water sources that affect millions downstream.

Educational and Awareness Programs: The KCC is dedicated to educating both local people and the global community about the importance of conservation. Supporting such efforts helps raise awareness about environmental issues that go beyond the local level, inspiring others to get involved.

Conservation-Driven Research: The KCC conducts scientific research to monitor biodiversity, track environmental changes, and improve conservation strategies. By supporting their work, you contribute to advancing knowledge and solutions to conservation challenges in the Himalayas.

In summary, supporting the Khangchendzonga Conservation Committee helps protect an ecologically sensitive region, promotes sustainable development for local communities, and preserves the area's unique cultural heritage—all while contributing to broader global conservation efforts.
